About Food Rescue:
Americans throw away 27% of all food available in the United States. Greensburg Community Bread of Life uses food rescue to decrease some of the unnecessarily wasted food from going to our landfills. By educating the community and working together, we can use food rescue to make a difference by feeding the hungry in Greensburg. It is our goal that you would feel comfortable in donating to our organization.
Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act
You are covered by the Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act
(Public Law 104-210 IND Code ANN. 34-4-12.5-1 and 35-4-12.5-2).
This law was passed in 1996. This law allows you, the donor, to be protected from criminal and civil liability and allows us to rescue prepared and perishable foods from Board of Health Certified kitchens.
Our food rescue program is handled by trained volunteers who are knowledgeable in food safety and sanitation. Our volunteers will not pick up food that could be deemed unsafe or inedible to the public.
We also would like to maintain efficiency. Most often the food rescue process requires little effort on the part of the donor. Food donations may be arranged on a one-time basis or an on-going regular schedule. Donations may be dropped off at the soup kitchen on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10-5pm or appointments can be made for better convenience.
If you are anticipating a food donation as a result of an upcoming event, please call as far in advance as possible to arrange a pick-up or drop-off time.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our food rescue volunteer:
